A practical view

Outside of the abstract world of philosophy, it is quite clear that induction does indeed work, to give probable results. The sun does indeed continue to rise each morning. The objects and people around us continue to behave in familiar ways, and the great practical achievements of science testify to the utility of looking for patterns in the world.

This does not mean all is predictable and nothing changes. All it means is that induction seems to be a valid principle.

If, however, you want to question if induction works at all, try this: Take off your shoe, and kick a solid object - really hard. Then do it again. Repeat until you are convinced that experience helps us predict the future.

Science and knowledge continued.
